Energy potential of floating photovoltaics in French Polynesia
With the aim of using floating photovoltaics as an important renewable energy source in achieving the 70%renewable energy target for 2030 proposed by the government of French Polynesia, it is important to determine the potential for installing this technology in the territory.
French Polynesia comprises 118 islands, 76 of which are inhabited, scattered across an area the size of Europe. The geomorphologies of these islands are very different, and can be grouped into 3 categories
The technology used is adapted to moderate swell conditions only found in atoll lagoons or islands with barrier reefs. Other selection criteria have been identified (inhabited island, reachable by ship, etc.)
There are many compatible islands, but is floating photovoltaics the most suitable renewable energy for each of them?
Two processing chains have been developed to determine the potential of installed and floating photovoltaic systems
